My Rating: 4 out of 5 stars Page Count: 456 Synopsis: Mara Dyer believes life can't get any stranger than waking up in a hospital with no memory of how she got there. It can. She believes there must be more to the accident she can't remember that killed her friends and left her strangely unharmed. There is. She doesn't believe that after everything she's been through, she can fall in love. She's wrong. My Review: The story starts off with a letter from Mara explaining that Mara Dyer is not her real name, it's a pseudonym, as her lawyers suggested she not use her real name to tell her story. I was immediately pulled in by the mystery of the letter and the supernatural elements that followed. We find out that Mara and her best friend Rachel had a freaky encounter with a Ouija board and not long after, Mara is in a life changing accident. Hodkin tells the story so well, the reader can feel what Mara is feeling after her accident. She's confused and experiencing PTSD, or so she thinks. While I knew there was some supernatural element to the story, it was hard to figure out exactly what it was until about halfway through the book. This was a little annoying because I was kind of lost as to what was going on until everything was finally explained. We meet Noah Shaw early on, Mara's love interest and to be honest I was a little disappointed with his character. I usually like to fall in love with the love interest as well, but I just couldn't fall in love with Noah. It's the typical story of boy chasing girl, girl fighting her feelings for boy because she's messed up and doesn't want to drag him into her world. However, Noah's chase ends pretty early before Mara gives in and they begin to explore what's happening to Mara. I wish there had been more of the cute moments between them before the book got serious. Overall, I definitely recommend this book to anyone who likes supernatural YA fiction. It was a crazy ride trying to figure out what was going on with Mara and what had happened during the accident. The surprise ending made me immediately go out and buy the next book in the series in which I fell in love with Mara's story even more :) Thanks for reading! Jackie So I'm going to Florida next week. Wait, did I say week? I meant I leave Friday to drive down with my parents and best friend. I should be packing. Also, I have an essay due tomorrow. Oh well.
Cress by Marissa Meyer
Average Rating on Goodreads: 4.5 of 5 stars My Rating: 4 of 5 stars Page Count: 550 Synopsis: In this third book in the Lunar Chronicles, Cinder and Captain Thorne are fugitives on the run, now with Scarlet and Wolf in tow. Together, they’re plotting to overthrow Queen Levana and her army. Their best hope lies with Cress, a girl imprisoned on a satellite since childhood who's only ever had her netscreens as company. All that screen time has made Cress an excellent hacker. Unfortunately, she’s just received orders from Levana to track down Cinder and her handsome accomplice. When a daring rescue of Cress goes awry, the group is separated. Cress finally has her freedom, but it comes at a high price. Meanwhile, Queen Levana will let nothing prevent her marriage to Emperor Kai. Cress, Scarlet, and Cinder may not have signed up to save the world, but they may be the only hope the world has. I feel like I read this series too fast considering Winter, the fourth book in the Lunar Chronicals, won't be out for months still...but oh well, I couldn't stop myself xD Cress was much better than Scarlet. Meyer weaved the three stories together much better than she did with the stories of Scarlet and Cinder. The beginning was entertaining and actually quite suspenseful. We meet Cress, a lunar shell hidden away in a satellite, and she is probably my favourite character in the series so far. Cress is intelligent and beautiful, but she's been hidden away for so long and has had no human interaction with anyone that she creates fantasies to make things better. She's very relatable, at least for me. Thorne becomes heroic and a much better character than who he was in Scarlet. He may not see it yet, but his character has made the most development out of everyone. And I absolutely love the romance between him and Cress. They compliment each other very well ^.^ The writing was very well done, despite the lull in action towards the middle of the book. Some things were predictable but I think Meyer did a better job of hiding things than she had in Cinder. Cress is my favourite book of the series so far and I'm anxiously awaiting the release of Winter! Happy Reading! Tia Edition: Paperback

Bryn is sent in to help stop him, but will she lose her heart in the process? How Excited are we? Sydney: 7/10 Anna: 8/10 Tia: 8/10 Jaclyn: 7/10 Commentary Sydney: So in all honesty I hadn’t even heard of this book coming out until Tia and Anna told me about it. But after doing some research, I found out that Frostfire is the first book in a new spin-off series. I never read the Trylle trilogy, but based on what Anna and Tia say about it, I can tell its really good, which means this one is gonna be good too! The only reason why I’m not too excited about this is because I never read the Trylle trilogy, which means this is a whole new story and world for me. But I’m sure that once I read the trilogy, I will be just as excited to pick this book up as well! Anna: I read the entire Trylle trilogy in 2014 and absolutely adored it. I can’t wait to get my hands on this book. I don’t remember Bryn from the Trylle trilogy, but I’m just excited to get book into the world. This spin-off series sounds so amazing. The plot of this book sounds so different than the Trylle books and I’m so excited to read about this forbidden love triangle thing. I can’t wait to see what Amanda Hocking has in store for us in this book! Tia: I've read the Trylle trilogy more times than I can count. I don't remember when I actually read it the first time, but I fell in love with it! And when I found out about this spin off series I just knew I had to get my hands on it. Like Anna, I don't remember a Bryn from the trilogy, but I'm excited to learn more about the Kainin Trylle tribe! Amanda Hocking didn't disappoint me with the Trylle trilogy so I can't wait to see what she has in store for this one :D Jaclyn: Similar to Sydney, I had never heard of this book until recently from Anna & Tia. I’ve also never read the Trylle trilogy, so my excitement about this one was mixed. It’s hard to get psyched about a new story from a world I’m not familiar with, but after reading the synopsis I’m actually really excited to add this to my TBR! I’m a sucker for a good love triangle and a strong female character and it seems like Frostfire won’t disappoint. I’m definitely going to read the Trylle trilogy before I pick this one up after reading how much Anna & Tia loved it! I’m excited to see what this new world has in store for me :) Are you all excited for Frostfire? Comment below your excitement for Frostfire! Happy Reading! Tia, Sydney, Jaclyn and Anna White Hot Kiss by Jennifer L. Armentrout
Edition: Paperback Pages: 392 Series or Standone: Series, The Dark Elements #1 Published: February 25th, 2014 Publisher: Harlequin Teen Link To Goodreads: http://www.jenniferarmentrout.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/08/whitehotkiss.jpg Goodreads Synopsis: “One kiss could be the last Seventeen-year-old Layla just wants to be normal. But with a kiss that kills anything with a soul, she's anything but normal. Half demon, half gargoyle, Layla has abilities no one else possesses. Raised among the Wardens—a race of gargoyles tasked with hunting demons and keeping humanity safe—Layla tries to fit in, but that means hiding her own dark side from those she loves the most. Especially Zayne, the swoon-worthy, incredibly gorgeous and completely off-limits Warden she's crushed on since forever. Then she meets Roth—a tattooed, hot demon who claims to know all her secrets. Layla knows she should stay away, but she's not sure she wants to—especially when that whole no-kissing thing isn't an issue, considering Roth has no soul. But when Layla discovers she's the reason for the violent demon uprising, trusting Roth could not only ruin her chances with Zayne…it could brand her a traitor to her family. Worse yet, it could become a one-way ticket to the end of the world.” Plot: 4.5/5 Stars I really enjoyed the plot. I loved how it was not clear about what side was good. There were so many twists and turns throughout the novel. People’s intentions were always confusing. It was hard to tell if they meant good or bad. (You should click the link. It's a Gif but I can't put it on here because I haven't figured it out yet.) http://data1.whicdn.com/images/36172128/large.gif The whole thing with gargoyles and demons was interesting. I had never read a book with gargoyles. It was cool seeing how they transformed and what they would look like. Characters: 5/5 Stars Layla, our main character, is half gargoyle and half demon. It was interesting seeing how that worked out. She tracks for the Wardens, but it’s dangerous. I liked how brave she was, but that she could be scared also. Zayne is a gargoyle. Layla lives with his family, the Warden. Zayne is her best friend in the book and I enjoyed reading about their relationship. I thought the conflict later in the book was well done with Zayne’s reaction. Roth is a demon. I don’t think I can say too much about him because spoilers. Let’s just say he was a great character, who I am excited to read more about. Do I have a ship yet? I can’t decide. Any quotes? Nope. None that I remember. Overall Rating: 5/5 Stars About the Author: Jennifer L. Armentrout is a New York Times and USA Today bestselling author.
